2008 MTV Video Music Awards Recap

September 7, 2008

There was something different about this years 2008 MTV Video Music Awards and I just can’t put my finger on it. Anyway, Britney Spears opened up the show with a skit not a performance as some expected. Rihanna was the opening act coming out like the bride of frankenstein performing her latest song.

Russell Brand looked like he was a little stoned. Jamie Foxx gave out the first award for Best Female Video to Britney Spears for Piece of Me. Demi Moore gave out the award for Best Male Video to Chris Brown for With You.

The Jonas Brothers sounded good. I’m sure all their fans were happy to see them perform.

Olympic Gold medalists Michael Phelps introduced Lil’ Wayne, Leona Lewis, and T-PAIN. Somebody need to tell Lil Wayne to put some clothes on. Why did he come out showing his underwear? It’s not a cute look at all. He might as well not had on those white pants. I’m surprised the FCC didn’t shut ’em down.

I have to be honest. I didn’t watch the whole VMA awards. I switched over to watch Army Wives on Lifetime (shh…but don’t tell anyone).

So what did you think of the awards this year?

This year’s VMA’s where horrible. It was different, I’ll put my finger on i for you. The show was stripped of its usual urban flair for more eclectic styles. The host sucked, the hip hop performances sucked, the audience was not hype. The entire stage area and sets looked like they were pre-recording as opposed to live. Britney won 3 VMA’s for a crappy song against some stiff competition. (she looked great though) I smell Payola going on to get this chic back in MTV circles. Lord knows she means Money $$$ to MTV. What the hell was Kanye West thinking about with that performance. Initially sounded cool, the visuals with the drummrs was cool but we need more in a closing.

This year’s VMA’s was sold out to special interest groups just like the GOP.

Kelvin A – you summed it up nicely. I had to watch Army Wives or else I would have fallen asleep. Maybe next year they’ll do better. In fact, I have some ideas on how to make it better–if they need some suggestions, I’ll be happy to help them out next year (and I’m not joking).
