MTV AND DR. DREW ADVISE FAMILIES TOGETHER WITH NEW SERIES “SEX…WITH MOM AND DAD” PREMIERING MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 AT 7PM ET/PT

Think MTV’s Emmy Award Winning “It’s Your (Sex) Life” Campaign Will Provide Viewers of “Sex…with Mom and Dad”
with Information and Resources on Sexual Health Topics

With so much information out there today regarding sex, health, relationships and dating, it’s difficult for young people to figure out what’s true and what’s false. But that’s all about to change as MTV premieres the new stripped series “Sex?with Mom and Dad ” with relationship expert Dr. Drew Pinsky on Monday, September 29 at 7pm ET/PT. A show that is as awkward as it is educational, “Sex?with Mom and Dad” is sure to inform, embarrass, shock and entertain – all while starting important dialogues among families.

“This is a unique and compelling format from overseas that we redeveloped and adapted for the MTV audience about getting families to talk openly about a taboo topic,” said Tony DiSanto, EVP, MTV Programming and Series Development. “?The talk’ is a personal choice for every family, but what Dr. Drew uncovers in this show is that by talking openly and honestly about sex, families can re-program their way of thinking, break down walls, reinforce trust and create deeper bonds.”

In each half-hour episode of “Sex?With Mom and Dad,” Loveline’s relationship expert Dr. Drew will help a teen and their parents work through their problems discussing sex, dating and relationships. The series will spotlight a wide spectrum of issues from a promiscuous teen whose mom can’t control his “manwhore” behavior; to a virgin heading off to college whose dad refuses to give her the sex talk she desperately wants; to a gay teen whose mom is troubled by his taste for bad boys. Whatever the issue, Dr. Drew will get the family talking – often for the very first time – about sex and intimate relationships. Dr. Drew will meet with the family to pinpoint the issue and assign two fun, yet daunting tasks tailored to the family’s issues and help open up about sexual beliefs and experience. Shockingly frank, upbeat, and funny, “Sex…with Mom and Dad” proves that if families can talk about sex, they can talk about anything – ultimately breaking down barriers and improving relationships in the process.

Think MTV will offer information on sexual health topics discussed in the show in the form of videos, articles, and discussion forums at http://www.itsyoursexlife.com , home of the Emmy Award winning sexual health campaign It’s Your (sex) Life. Topics discussed will cover an array of sexual health areas: abstinence, safe sex, body image, relationships, friends & family, pregnancy, parenting & adoption, infections and diseases, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, emotions, abortion, school and careers. Sexual health messaging will be incorporated into the end of each episode where Dr. Drew will recap what viewers have just seen and send viewers to itsyoursexlife.com for additional information and interaction.

The most listened to doctor in America, Dr. Drew is the host of two nationally syndicated radio shows; Loveline where he has been taking calls from listeners since 1982, and his daytime talk program Dr. Drew Live which began airing on KGIL earlier this year. Many people do not know that Dr. Drew is an internist who is board certified in addiction medicine, Service Director of the Department of Chemical Dependency Services at Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena, still runs a private practice, and is Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Keck USC School of Medicine. Last year Dr. Drew and VH1 teamed up for the first reality series on television to depict the process of overcoming addiction. “Celebrity Rehab” with Dr. Drew and “Celebrity Rehab Reunion” show were critically acclaimed by the addiction community for pulling back the veil of secrecy on what goes on in rehab. Both shows were huge ratings success for the network. “Celebrity Rehab” season 2 will air in October.

“Sex?With Mom and Dad” is executive produced by Bryan Scott and Lesley Goldman for Picture This Television. Mike Powers and Angie Day are executive producers for MTV. Liz Gateley and Brent Haynes are executives in charge of production. Original show concept created by British production company Shine Entertainment.

This is such a great show. I’ve watched every episode so far. So glad to see Drew is using his exceptional talents to promote dialogues between parents and kids on sex. I’ve been a fan of his since happening upon Loveline via late night radio and I have always wondered what form his insights and expertise might take in a setting of parent-child intervention.

If I ever have kids, I am taking a page out of Dr Drew’s book; I am going to be open with them and approachable so that they will seek me out for non-judgmental information and advice. Meanwhile, Dr Drew, thank you so much for stepping up and bridging the gap between kids who want independence, acceptance from their parents and the parents who want to keep their kids responsible and safe.

At the end of the day, both parties have more in common than they realize. The whole ice-breaking exercises, the break-through stuff, it’s all so well done. I actually cried when I saw the one with Joseph, dad and Jazmine, 18. His reaction when she asks him about rape and what to do was so telling of a father who cares about his kid. You just see this immediate terror mixed with compassion wash over his face but rather than freaking on her, he – courtesy of Dr Drew’s counsel – stays calm and gives helpful answers and advice. It’s kind of miraculous what a benefit Dr Drew is for situations like these.

It’s a nice way for parents to let their kids know how much they love them and care about them; “I want you to be empowered by information,” and “You can ask me anything and we’re not gonna judge.” And sure enough, it’s this exact type of treatment that Drew has shown is gonna help the kids to value themselves and make good, informed choices when they are ready to make them, rather than hastening through risky behaviors prematurely or due to mere curiosity, a desire to be reckless (w/o appreciation for potentially awful consequences), or cave to peer pressure.

    Even just the concept of

(Quick but unavoidable shout out: has anyone out there seen Veronica Mars? One of the best tv series ever! Probably the BEST father-daughter arc. EVER. In any form of tv, film, etc. I wish I had a dad like Keith Mars…)

If it weren’t for Dr Drew, that conversation would never have taken place. And the benefits that we get to witness on-screen are a tip of the ice-berg to what can happen once healthy communication is established.

And thank you for calling out the hooking up phenomenon. It’s kind of scary what’s going on right now… The meaning of sex is just kind of dissipating entirely and no one benefits when things go down that we will regret later. People would get a lot more enjoyment and satisfaction from their sex lives if they were informed and empowered and mindful in considering both the pros and cons.

Personally, I also want to add that I was abused as a kid and it led to me, for a while, allowing those patterns to continue in my life with the relationships I was choosing for myself. Every single time I see a case of conflict and tension in a family being turned around and made into something positive, it is a cathartic and heartwarming thing to witness. I am so proud of this doctor for being an advocate for people of all ages and for being an agent and steward of healthy relationships based upon responsibility, awareness, and respect.

PS – MTV, thanks, you guys have done a good job with this one. I just hope the show isn’t shelved in between that god-awful Paris Hilton garbage and who knows what else. ***Most definitely, you should feature Dr Drew’s show @ a few different time slots and send some promo clips to media outlets for various markets like E! News for the younger crowd and IDK, whomever else. You don’t want the show to get co-opted by the older demographic cuz then it’s just not cool, so maybe Drew could do an interview with Giuliana or Ryan or something. Ryan loves the salacious crap so I’m sure Drew could find a way to anchor the broadcast with measured sensibility while Ryan plays up the taboo angle of “you won’t believe what happens next-“.***

I was channel surfin’ n came across the Dr.Drew “sex tlk w/mom & dad” shw…I was like, “r u f***ing kidding me? Whtever happen to ur body is ur temple, respect n honor it…. n wht about being shameful because u had UNPROTECTED sex w/over 40 different ppl. at the age of 16…n wht about respect fr ur parents n more imprtantly urselves as young men n women (I use tht term loosely)? They r ALL fricken CHILDRN!!! They all belong in jail fr stautory RAPE on a minor n Dr. Drew should b prosecuted fr promoting sex acts of a minor…We r jailing all the other pediphiles, wht’s the difference? Is our laws tht GREY?!!!Why is Dr. Drew encouraging this illegal sex behavior anyway? Wht about joining activities in school? Do we not have those anymore? Wht about just having fun w/out sex? It all boils dwn to illegal undr-aged sex, illegal undr-aged smoking n drinking n etc…R we all tht bored tht there is absolutely nothing fr these CHILDREN to do xcept f***ing? I blame the parents, BTH of thm fr the deseases spread n the low grade point averages all over! Now-a-days ur lucky to have herpes n not a major STD…Do u even knw the ridiculas numbers of sexually transmitted deseases amongst MINORS!!!!Thn Dr. Drew fr xploiting this “sex” phanomenom by encouraging n making fun “games” out of it w/the CHILDRN’S parnts…HELLO??????, it’s NOT ur CHILDRNS business where, how n whn u (the mother n father) had sex…r u fricken kidding me???? I feel sick to my stomach to raise my beautiful baby boys in this enviormnt. Who’s to say, by the time my kids r grwn n at the age of dating (NOT SEX) tht the girl he chooses to date have had been used as a public urinal…yuk!!! I thnk I’m gonna encourge my boys to b monks!!! Dr. Drew is nothing but a pimp n crimminal n I hope some prosecutor out there sees my point n put this “pimp” out of business n lock thse parnts up fr negligence n place all the kids in foster care BOOT CAMP!!!PROBLM SOLVED!!! First the parents complain their child is having sex n they’re laughing throughout the entire shw…where is the humor in ur CHILD sucking someones penis or sticking their penis in every hole he can find???!!! Have we all lost “it”? This is insanity! We complain as a society our childrn r too, too sexually active, but on the other hand we r allowing the same xact behavior we’re complaining about…My God, thse r CHILDREN fr crying out loud!!!! All I hear is girls n boys not even old enough to vote having engaged in sex acts w/over dozens of ppl….wow! No wonder other countries HATE n have no respect fr Americans…I DO NOT blame thm. We’re suppose to b a super power…but we’re nothing but raising future dumb sex workers!!! Girls should b girls n boys should b boys, I don’t knw exactly wht tht means in ur families. Every family is different, but b creative, stimulate their minds n bodies (NOT in tht way!!) n encourage ur CHILD/RN to play a sport, a musical instrumnt, volunteer wrk n etc..Go hlp ur childrn, go spend some time w/ur kids…don’t thrw ur hnds up n give ur childrns to tht pimp (Dr.Drew)..I understnd u have to chnge w/the times, but this is totally ridiculas! “Sex tlk” should b xplored n tlked about w/ur husbnd or wife n NOT ur mother n father!! Is there NOTHING sacried between man n wife? Ok, maybe being a virgin n ur husband or wife being ur first is extinct, but wht about promoting REAL relationships n NOT one nighters or 2 nighters…let’s fr one moment teach our CHILDRN abstinance (yeah, right!) or at least limit the sexual partners thy have to single digits? Maybe tht’s xtinct too. It shouldn’t b though…Dr.Drew being a well respected n world renoun doctor should use his celebrity status to promote family life, respect, responsibility, meaningful relationships, good wrk ethics, honesty, volunteer wrk, family togetherness, make time fr ur famliy n EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION!!! Wait to find the right person n have a meaningful relationship with…I think even everyone would agree tht it’s much more fulfilling thn just a F***! I am DONE! I hope my kind is not an endangered specie…Game on b*tches…….:-D
