I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Monica Carter for a few years and I’m always impressed with her gentle spirit and her natural ability to motivate others. She has a new book out that I’m sure you’ll all love, so be sure to pick up a copy of the Scandalous Truth.

What do you want to do different in 2009, that you didn’t do in 2008?

Well, the easy answer is celebrate the release of and promote Scandalous Truth, which just came out this month! Besides that, I will continue to grow RootSky Creative as we create great marketing and design projects for clients.

What song would you use as the soundtrack of your life and why?

Wow, that’s a hard one. I could use several, all relating to different times in my life. But if I had to choose one right now, I would say an old song we used to sing in college by Kirk Franklin called “Why We Sing.” I am so full of joy and thankfulness these days and it’s because of God and his tremendous blessings.

What’s your favorite quote & why?

One quote I really like and believe is: “Whether you think you can o r whether you think you can’t, you’re right,” attributed to Henry Ford. I like that one because it reminds us that how we view a situation — our circumstances — determines how things will turn out. If we view our situations as hopeless occurrences that we have no control over, then we will continue to wander through life feeling like victims and getting what just “happens” to us. But if we see our circumstances as results of our choices and largely our own creation, then we will be more deliberate in our decisions and will get better results.

What character in your new book could you most relate to?

Well, I could relate to both Nikki, the wife, and William, the husband, in Scandalous Truth. As a wife, I could relate to Nikki’s desire to take care of her family, and as a woman, we sometimes sacrifice so much of ourselves for others. As a business owner, I could relate to William, who spent so much time working. When you’re running a business or taking a less traveled path, you’ll often face disappointments, hard times and even moments when those around you question your decisions. But if you keep pressing on, it will all come together. I’m in my seventh year of business, and I’ve seen many things, including tough times and now, much better times.

Scandalous Truth is the story of one family’s secret past. Nikki has put her career on hold to take care of her hard-working husband and adorable daughter. She doesn’t mind the sacrifice — well, not too much — but the very family she has tried to take care of could be in jeopardy when a secret from her past threatens to resurface.

Doesn’t love between a husband and wife cover a multitude of imperfections? Or can some things never be forgiven? Can a scandalous truth be a deal-breaker?
