Sweet 16ers you love to hate

Viewers Can Visit think.mtv.com to get a behind the scenes look at what the Super Sweet 16 divas learned while filming “EXILED” and find more information about the countries, indigenous people and social issues explored in each episode.

New York, NY – MTV is taking viewers back into the luxurious lives of some of the most infamous divas from “My Super Sweet 16” but this time it’s not for birthday cake — it’s to watch them receive the ultimate reality check.  It’s been more than two years since the glitz and glamour of these teens’ super sweet soirees and they’re still living life with no limitations.  But these spoiled Sweet 16ers have maxed out their parents’ credit cards for the last time.  In “My Super Sweet 16 Presents: EXILED!”, premiering on Monday, August 25 at 10:30 pm ET/PT, their fed up parents will finally lay down the law and send their ungrateful kids to live with indigenous tribes in far flung countries to teach them the lesson of a lifetime.  It’s a dose of tough love these teens aren’t ready for!

The series will feature some of the most memorable party throwers ever featured in “My Super Sweet 16” as they hand over their iPhones and Gucci bags and travel halfway around the world to far-off places like the Pacific island of Vanuatu, the Amazon rain forest, the Moroccan desert and the jungles of Thailand.  Once there, the Sweet 16ers will have to live the way their host family does, which means participating in chores like building a hut out of cow dung in Kenya or herding reindeer in the frozen tundra of the Arctic Circle.  Will these spoiled teens come back with a new perspective on life or will they simply crack under the pressure of the experience?  You won’t want to miss a minute of “My Super Sweet 16 Presents: EXILED!”.

To complement the series, MTV’s Think Community  will provide viewers with information about the country and the indigenous groups of people visited in each episode. Think will also provide more information on the issues explored in the series as well including water and sanitation, malaria, environmental conservation and access to education. In addition to learning more about these issues viewers will be able to take action, as Think will connect viewers to both local and international organizations, such as the United Nations Foundation, working in the countries featured on each episode.  Viewers will be able to discuss the show with each other as well as with the show’s producer through the producer’s Think blog on think.mtv.com.

And before the Sweet 16ers everyone loves to hate get EXILED, MTV will remind viewers of all the reasons why they’re so unforgettable.  On Saturday, August 23 at 1pm – 7pm, a four-hour marathon of past episodes will feature the cast’s fabulous parties, expensive gifts and terrible tantrums as we highlight each teen’s most Exileable moments.  The marathon will be followed by The Road to Exile, where we catch up with the eight former Sweet 16ers and show all the reasons why their parents have finally had enough of their outrageous behavior.  This is a trip that you don’t want to miss!!

Viewers can get more connected with the “My Super Sweet 16 Presents Exiled” cast on MTV.com where they will find cast photos, exclusive video, deleted scenes, episode recaps and updates on the cast members after the Exile.  MTV.com will be the go to place for fans where they can get personal with the cast, view blog entries from the sweet 16ers journals during their trips and video Q&A on the Exiled experience.

Below are detailed descriptions of the shows that are scheduled to air:

August 25th — Amanda

It’s been three years since her Super Sweet 16 and Amanda is still living the life of a pampered princess. But her parents have finally had enough of her laziness and decide to EXILE her to Kenya, Africa. Can Amanda learn to grow up or will she wilt in the African heat?

September 1st — Ava

This Sweet 16er is one everyone will always remember- Ava shopped for a dress in Paris, threw a tantrum when she didn’t get a Range Rover on her birthday and ran away from home forcing her mother to cancel her credit card. And three years later, she’s still living the high life.  She’s a global studies major in college but this Beverly Hills girl knows nothing about the real world.  Her parents decide it’s time for a lesson she can’t learn from books and EXILE her to the jungles of Thailand.

September 8th — Chelsi

Not much has changed in the two years since her Roman-themed Sweet 16.  Chelsi still demands to be treated like a princess and refuses to even lift a finger at home.  But when she is EXILED to the frozen tundra of Norway, will learning the ways of the Saami people teach her what a work ethic is or will being a reindeer herder push this diva over the edge?

September 15th — Bjorn

Three years ago, Bjorn proclaimed himself a DIVO while planning his over-the-top Sweet 16. And these days he still goes by the title and prides himself on his passion for fashion and maxing out Daddy’s credit card.  But Bjorn’s parents have decided it’s time for him to learn how to earn his keep so they EXILE him to the deserts of Morocco where he’ll have to trade his Chanel duds for a turban and try to learn that the best things in life are free.

September 22nd — Marissa

Ditzy Marissa may not seem to know how to do a lot for herself but she has one skill mastered – getting what she wants. But this spoiled Daddy’s girl won’t get her way when her parents EXILE her to the hills of Kerala, Idia to live with the Ugali people.  In this tribe, it’s each woman for herself and Marissa won’t have anyone to do the work for her.  Can she learn to take care of herself or will she be calling begging her parents to let her come home?

September 29th — Meleny

Ever since throwing an 18th birthday party fit for Egyptian royalty, Meleny has been a royal pain.  She’s 20 years old, still living with her parents and still spending their money.  In fact, she’s never even spent a night away from them!  So Meleny’s family EXILEs her to Peru where herding llamas and dealing with altitude sickness make this experience a not-so-sweet reality check.

October 6th — Sierra

Growing up the daughter of famous hip-hop star Cee-Lo has taught Sierra how to be diva-licious as she showed at her legendary Sweet 15 birthday party.  But three years later, Sierra is more of a diva than ever before.  Her parents want to teach her that everything won’t be handed to her on a silver platter and EXILE her to the Vocanic island of Vanuatu where she’ll learn that it’s not “who you know” that will earn you respect in this jungle.

October 13th — Alex

 Two years after her Sweet 16, Alex is still the Paris Hilton-wannabe she always has been.  But her father, a self-made man, wants to pull the plug on Alex’s lavish lifestyle and decides to EXILE her to the Amazon jungles of Brazil.  This pampered princess will soon learn that leaving her plush palace for a hut in the woods is not so “juicy”.

Exiled is executive produced by Banks Tarver and Ken Druckerman for Left/Right and Jenna Arnold and Ryan Golembeske for Press Play Productions.   Danielle Medina, Amy Bailey and Dave Sirulnick serve as executive producers for MTV.

JOJO’S JOURNAL – BERNIE MAC AND ISAAC HAYES

August 11, 2008

Hey folks, what’s up.  Just stopping by for a minute to give my take on what’s going on in the entertainment world and beyond.  And remember, it’s MY take, everyone has an opinion.

~~~~~~~~~~~
I have not updated JoJo’s Journal over the last couple of weeks and it will be down for the next month while I upgrade.  But I had to take this moment to talk about the passing of comedian/actor Bernie Mac and singer, composer, musician, producer and actor Isaac Hayes.
How strange is it that the two actors, who just made a movie together, “Soul Men”, would die a day apart?  But life is full of oddities and things that can never be explained.
I loved Bernie Mac!  He was one of the funniest comedians in the world and he was a very good actor who seemed to be getting better all the time.  I found his sitcom “The Bernie Mac Show” to be a good wholesome show that you could watch with your children or grandparents, which is rare these days in television.  I also loved Bernie in Ocean’s Eleven, Guess Who, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and Bad Santa.  He was a family man who was married to his wife for 32 years.  Now that says a lot about the type of man he was.  My heart goes out to his wife, daughter and granddaughter.  As far as I’m concerned, at 50 he was too young to die, but when our Father calls us home – we must go.  I will miss you funny man!  RIP.
Growing up in the 70’s, the music of Isaac Hayes played a big part in my life.  Nothing, I mean nothing, will ever be as interesting as his Oscar winning composition, The Theme From Shaft.  Isaac Hayes was a musical genius for sure and a very big part of the 70’s black power movement.  He brought black music to another level; made it more “classic”.  Check back with JoJo’s Journal later this week and read my take on the great Isaac Hayes.
My advice to everyone who reads JoJo’s Journal is to show love to your family and friends NOW.  Tell them you love them.  Tomorrow is not promised to anyone whether rich or poor, young or old, black or white.  Live for today!  Live now!  Follow your dreams now because you may not have tomorrow.
Peace and love,
JoJo
